As Down’s Syndrome Awareness month comes to an end, may we ask for 8 minutes of your time?

We recently made an explainer video about ‘Why Research Matters for Down’s Syndrome’ – because we know that very few people realise how much of a difference good quality scientific research makes, and why we care so much about it.

You can see the video here. You can also find links to the video on our social media.

Globally, research on ‘minority’ conditions like Down’s syndrome are one of the first things to disappear when national budgets get tight. At DSRF UK, we do not rely on institutional funding at all.

We know that our work makes a difference and helps fund world-first research projects that can struggle to get prioritised, but donor commitments rarely matches our need. We need word of mouth to spread about why our work matters.

In the last day or so of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Month October 2026, can you help us boost awareness of the need to fund research in this area?

We would really appreciate if you could send this video on to a friend, family member, colleague, academic, healthcare practitioner, or anyone at all with a connection to our community.

THANK YOU!!
