Why we need your support

World-wide there are millions of people who suffer from this disease. This is the most common cause of mental handicap at birth, and it gets the least funding for research.

The Bad News: Eugenics Programs: In the UK the government is funding a screening program to detect these babies before they are born and then doctors will tell parents they can end this pregnancy and get a terminatiuon. Over 1000 of these terminations happen every year in the UK and this is regarded as a very successful program. The advocates of this program have estimated this saves £1 million ($1.5 million) for every birth that is prevented.  Thats about  £1 billion a year in "savings" every year in the UK.  More than a few mistakes where the baby did not have Down syndrome. We  know this happens because some parents refuse to have an abortion and then will phone to say the baby was born and it did not have Down syndrome.  This is a very negative program and it competes for funding with good medical research programs that can find a treatment therapy to help these members of our human family to live a normal life.

The Good News: We are very close to finding a treatment therapy to make these lives much more normal.  All of the health problems can be treated with modern medicine and all that remains is a cure for the memory problem that makes it difficult to learn important information.  They can already learn to read and write and many will have jobs.  Brain degeneration  effects everyone in old age and this includes you and me.  We all become forgetful and eventually cant even recognize our own family.  People with Down syndrome are effected much sooner and it will shorten their lives.  The medicine we seek for their mental health and for their memory is the same medicine we will need one day.

Even if there is no one in your family that has Down syndrome you could have a loved one who will see a great benefit from this important research.  Its that important not only to children and adults with Down syndrome, but also to the whole human race.

These children and the adults cant ask for your help -  But one day they will know what you have done for them and thank you.

There are about 700 babies born each year in the UK who  have Down’s syndrome.  In the USA there are about 4,000 of these births every year and about the same number in Europe.  Millions of families are affected, this research is desperately needed - and yet it is dreadfully under funded.

We have the researchers we know the research we need to conduct and we have medicines we can be testing NOW!  But we need financial support to get the research underway.  Every kind gesture, every small collection or personal cheque will enable us to move our research forward.

100% of every donation is used to get the research underway we have no expensive offices and no employees. We have no competitors we do the work that no one is doing.   We look for the miracle cure.
